Job - Transit Engineer

One of our large domestic clients is seeking a Transit Engineer to join their team on a permanent full-time basis.

Our client is responsible for the construction and maintenance of certain elements of the City of Edmonton's street lighting and traffic signals, LRT, signalling and power distribution systems. Similar projects are also undertaken for other clients throughout Alberta. They are looking for a Transit Engineer to facilitate the delivery of LRT construction, design, upgrade and maintenance projects for the city of Edmonton Transit system and related substation equipment as well as help pursuing new business opportunities. This will require building in-house engineering support to compliment their construction and operations resources.
Working closely with operations group and liaising with the client, the Engineer will take a leadership role in Transit Systems construction projects and provide engineering support to maintenance programs for the LRT and Trolley Systems. The Transit Engineer will be accountable for overall management of project activities such as design, estimate, budget, quality assurance, procurement, planning and controls, construction, coordination, project reporting and safety to achieve a quality product, while respecting the established budget and schedule objectives. The Transit Engineer is also required to work closely with Business Development group to pursue growth opportunities by helping prepare Project Proposals and providing expert advice on feasibility and resource requirements.

To succeed in this position, the successful candidate must be able to build and foster strong relationships with clients and other groups within our client's company. The candidate will communicate objectives for critical milestones, budgets, schedules and client satisfaction to project team members, identify and resolve complex project problems, and follow proper escalation procedures when required.

Job Requirements:
BS Electrical Engineering and eligibility to register as a P. Eng in Alberta.
4+ years of proven and progressive experience in designing and Project Managing the construction of DC Traction Power systems for LRT.
Experience with both new construction and upgrade of LRT catenary and signal systems.
Experience in preparing and overseeing maintenance programs for LRT systems is a strong asset.
Advanced knowledge of LRT Substations, equipment layouts, and protection requirements.
Familiar with load studies and short circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations for equipment sizing, grounding design, relay coordination, and power control schematics.
Working knowledge of Automatic Train Control is a plus.
Experience with procurement of work and bid proposals.
Strong communication skills and ability to work well with others.
Results oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and time lines.
Strong command of the English language with the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
General computer skills in MS Word and Excel.
