Coating / TSC (Thermally Sprayed Coatings) Inspector
The Coating / TSC Inspector will work with the Cleint (a state Owned Company based in Qatar) Corrosion Engineering team members. To manage, supervise and direct the Coating / TSC Inspection activities, in line with Corrosion Engineering plans and Cleint defined procedures, to meet Client Onshore and Offshore operation plant Integrity and Reliability requirements for Safe & Continuous operation.
Background:
• The Coating / TSC Inspector reports directly to the Sr. Corrosion Engineer (Coatings).
• The Corrosion Engineering Unit is charged with maintaining plant Integrity & reliability by conducting regular periodic Coating Condition Surveys and Inspections. These surveys follow set guidelines & assist in managing the asset condition and maintenance planning and prioritization.
• The personnel required will primarily be responsible for undertaking these Inspections, with a secondary responsibility of providing QA/QC assistance to the Coating / TSC operations QA/QC team on shutdown related equipment, piping and structural Elements.
The Following Skills, experience and qualifications are required:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering & Paint Inspector's certificate (NACE Level 2, FROSIO Level 3, SSPC PCI Level 2, TWI-BGAS Grade 2.
• Have at least eight (8) years work experience in the field of coating inspection, with at least five (5) years (or at least five (5) projects) in oil & gas, petrochemical installations, preferably in a production environment and minimum four (4) years as a Coating / TSC Inspector.
• Extensive painting and TSC inspection background to understand the scope of work.
• Understanding of basic Corrosion and Corrosion Protection principles.
• Experience working in an offshore oil and gas production environment.
• Ability to use WFT, DFT, PIG, HATE, TD Scan gauges & is well conversant with other inspection tools.
• Ensure that all necessary test instruments and standards are available at all times and that every instrument is fully functional, properly calibrated and recorded.
• Ability to generate Coating / TSC Inspection & Survey Reports.
• Ability to read & understand Plant & NDT Inspection Reports.
• Ability to relate equipment criticality when making observations and enter inspection data into perspective.
• Ability to relate pictorial references, SSPC Vis 2 & Vis 3 to identify rust grades as per SSPC Std / ASTM D610 and log in report.
• Ability to read & understand specifications, engineering drawings, including ISOs, P&IDs, Plot Plans, Piping Plans etc.
• Should be well conversant with the Safety & PPE requirements of working in an offshore/Onshore environment.
• Ability to enter the inspection data into the required format, in a clear & concise manner with appropriate descriptions.
• Ability to conduct pre-job site walk to identify work scope for the Coating Refurbishment team.
• Ability to determine by measurement and observation that each clause of the specification is fully complied with by the applicator, within the scope of the coating inspector / surveyors authority.
• Ability to cross check Painting Contractor's measured quantities upon subsequent job award.
• Well conversant with all relevant Intl Standards & specifications for Coatings & TSC.
• Well conversant with Oil & Gas industry QA/QC requirements & procedures.
• Ability to provide on-site coating QA/QC coverage when required.
• Ensure that essential raw materials are stored and used as per manufacturer's recommendations.
• Ability to identify Punch List items.
• Ability to contribute in performance / audit process of contractor personnel.

Specific Skills:
• Fluent in English language, both written and spoken.
• Ability to generate Coating / TSC Inspection Reports.
• Ability to read & understand Coating / TSC Inspection Reports.
• Ability to understand & identify and quantify coating breakdown mechanisms.
• Ability to understand & identify structural condition as per Industry guidelines.
• Ability to relate equipment criticality when making observations and take inspection data into perspective.
• Ability to pictorially capture image reflecting the severity of corrosion on a particular item.
• Ability to relate pictorial references, SSPC Vis 2 & Vis 3 to identify rust grades as per SSPC Std / ASTM D610 and log in report.
• Ability to accurately conduct CVI on heavily corroded locations (equipment / piping) to verify pit depth and check against corrosion allowance requirement for Integrity Engineering inspection.
• Ability to accurately quantify the m2 area to be painted with the appropriate service maintenance coating system, taking into consideration access issues, scaffold requirements and recoating job optimization.
• Identify any & all areas / locations with a potential to pose a possible EHS hazard due to corrosion. Also to identify if location which is sound candidate for composite wrapping or further Integrity inspections (dependent on degree of corrosion) where required.
• Fully conversant with computer usage with the ability to use reporting (word, excel, power point and PDF) software.
• Ability to enter the Coating / TSC inspection data into the required format, in a clear & concise manner with appropriate descriptions.
• Ability to conduct pre-job site walk to identify work scope for the Coating Refurbishment team.
• Ability to cross check Painting Contractor's measured quantities upon subsequent job award.
• Well conversant with all relevant Intl Standards & specifications for Coatings, TSC and such Surveys.
• Must be physically fit and able to climb unhindered and access small areas (vessels, tanks, pipe- racks etc.).
Main Accountabilities:
• Undertake required inspections to the satisfaction of the Corrosion Engineer.
• Participate in Shutdown Inspection activities for any and all Onshore and Offshore Static equipment, piping systems and structural components.
• Participate in failure investigation inspections.
• Assist Corrosion Engineer in conducting periodic audits on Insulation & Coating Contractor in Yard & on work site.
• Participate in safety walks & audits.
• Assist Corrosion Engineer in preparing Coating & Corrosion Engineering related documentation by providing the required information in terms of field visits.
• Assist Maintenance Department in interpreting inspection data into work packs, including qualification & quantification of required work.
• Any additional relevant task assigned by immediate supervisor.
