Technical Specialist - Metallurgy

Scope of Responsibilities:
Reporting to Head of Department and acting as Deputy Manger of Cathodic Protection Group within Metallurgy and Corrosion Department. Provide leadership to team members and identify strengths and weaknesses of the discipline members and recommend training and development intervention, planning and career opportunities. Provide key managerial and administrative support for the department and assist in activities related to manpower resources, organization development, preparation of new standards and procedures, etc. Responsible/owner of all activities related to Cathodic Protection within the department and company. Responsible for managing all projects/proposals related to Cathodic Protection System and ensure quality and technical excellence for jobs under supervision. Take measures for maintaining quality of engineering, completion of projects within the budgeted man-hours and cost and adhering to the project schedule

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate and co-ordinate manpower recruitment process in collaboration with HR.
  • Conduct regular technical interviews for potential new hires.
  • Responsible of appointing required sources to projects / proposal (when required) and ensuring timely achievement of milestones and deliverables whilst delegating proper tasks.
  • Establish performance criteria, agree performance objectives within the group and develop competency of team members.
  •  Organize internal quality audits/peer reviews for monitoring quality and ensure timely close-out of actions.
  • Performing additional duties of Cathodic Protection Specialist.
  • Responsible of standardization of Cathodic Protection System documents, procedures and philosophies in line with International Standards and Practices.
  • Coordination with colleagues / other departments within the company / all other regional/worldwide branches/offices in line with Company policies, organization chart and job requirement (where applicable/required)
  • Representation of Company during visits / meetings with clients/customers (local/international) in line with Company best interest and job requirement (where applicable/required).
  • Ensuring implementation of cost effective solutions in terms of design, procurement and consumption of man-hours
  • Eligible to perform Cathodic Protection Specialist role by fulfilling technical competency and minimum experience /qualification requirements of Cathodic Protection Specialist.
  • Conversant with all international standards and practices related to Cathodic Protection.
  • Conversant with the requirements of CP system and CP standards/specifications of regional Oil / Gas / Power / Municipality / Petrochemical end users and operators.
  • Conversant with the fabrication and Manufacturing process of all CP materials.
  • Conversant with company’s Quality Management System and all other implemented policies/standards/systems with regards to Quality, HSE, Management and Administration.
  • Able to perform detailed calculations for all types of Cathodic Protection System (Onshore/Offshore).
  • Have experience in the designing of CP system for well casings, pipelines, plant piping, AST (external/internal), buried tanks, buried vessels, offshore pipelines, offshore structures, Reinforced Concrete Structures and Piling
  • Have experience in the designing of Remote Monitoring and Control System for Cathodic Protection System.
  • Able to conduct inspections for all CP Materials.
  • Must have site experience in the field of surveys (Soil Resistivity, PSP, CIPS and/or DCVG)
  • Must have site experience in installation and commissioning of Cathodic Protection System and Remote Monitoring and Control System for CP System.
  • Conversant with site audits, site investigation and troubleshooting with regards to Cathodic Protection System.


Qualification:
Graduate Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Chemical/Metallurgy) Must have a diploma/certificate (minimum) in Project Management. Minimum 12 years direct experience in Cathodic Protection System (Field/Office) and 15 years (minimum) overall experience. Must be NACE certified (Minimum Senior Corrosion Technologist) or equivalent M I Corr. Minimum 5 years of Management experience in the previous company(ies) or acted as a specialist/principal engineer role for 5 years within the present company. Experience must be related to Cathodic Protection activities.
