Job Title: Materials Specialist
Job Description:
Our client is a major global operator, and is seeking candidates for a Materials Specialist position. The Materials Specialist provides material selection and corrosion control support for upstream oil and gas production.
Primary Job Functions:
• Support new and existing upstream oil and gas projects with assistance in the specification, selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis of tubular, processing, and structural materials
• Work with materials suppliers to qualify materials
• Work with engineering and construction contractors to specify and select materials for large scale offshore and onshore construction projects
• Work with project teams and contractors to define the scope of work for corrosion control and monitoring systems for onshore, offshore, and subsea structures
• Develop technical recommendations and reports
• Revise internal specifications for construction, purchasing, and fabrication of materials to implement lessons learned and current industry standards
Job Requirements:
• B.S. in metallurgical engineering, material science or related field
• Project engineering experience on large upstream oil and gas construction projects
• Direct experience with materials specifications for demanding environments including corrosive and sour service
• Familiarity with metallurgical processing, material fabrication, welding, mechanical and corrosion testing, quality control as well as failure analysis of carbon steel and corrosion resistant alloys
• Conversant in industry standards, specifications, codes, and documentation for welding, testing, inspection, and specification of materials including API, ASME, ASTM, DNV, and ISO
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to supplier and field locations
• Self-motivated and focused on achieving business results
• Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Practical experience with standard test methods for mechanical testing and fracture mechanics
• Familiarity with downhole tubulars and casing materials, liners, completion equipment, onshore and subsea wellheads and trim
• Familiarity with polymeric materials, including elastomeric seals, fiberglass composites, and thermoplastics
• M.S. or Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering, material science or related field
