As a project manager, you would be accountable for project management of General Plant
Maintenance or New Facilities and Pipeline projects. Types of projects managed will include partial to full facility automation, oil pump equipment additions and modification, measurement facility additions and modifications.
You would work closely with Engineering, Construction Services and various internal groups in the head office and the regions.
Reporting to the Manager, Automaton Engineering, this full time position is responsible for
supporting Our client’s assets and lines of businesses in Canada and the United States. You
would work closely with Engineering, Construction Services and various internal groups in the head office and the regions.
*This position is eligible for domestic relocation.
*This position is not eligible for cross-border relocation.
Responsibilities
- Management of multiple simultaneous projects, completing them on time, on budget and within scope using project management systems;
- Guiding and directing the project team through project initiation, planning, design,
procurement, construction, commissioning and closeout;
- Define the project deliverables, including timelines, risks and dependencies;
- Perform time and cost management of the project including setting budgets, schedules,
managing project cost change control and variance reporting;
- Negotiate deliverables with key internal and external stakeholders;
- Monitor and improve Project Management effectiveness through the analysis of suitable project performance metrics;
- Prepare monthly status updates on project status and execution performance for senior
leadership;
- Liaise with Design Engineering, Oil Pipeline Engineering, Oil Control Center and Field Operations to develop project estimates for budgets for projects;
- Coordinate and ensure the timely completion of project documentation requirements and
project close-out;
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve process efficiency and reduce project life
cycles and costs;
- Liaise with procurement to effectively manage contractual obligations and develop optimal
contractual approach strategies for all projects;
- Liaise with the HS&E department to promote awareness and understanding of safety
performance on projects;
- Develop project execution documents, such as, Decision Summaries for project financial
approval, phase plans for project implementation and project safety management plans;
- Develop model for assessing and managing risks associated with project execution;
- Ensure that appropriate levels of construction site monitoring activities are implemented for all projects.
- Knowledge and understanding of project management practices with respect to reimbursable,
operating and business development projects;
- 10 to 15 years of experience in design and program/project management including planning, budget preparation, performance metrics, approvals, forecasting, contracts, safety and risk assessment;
- Understanding of oil facility design, construction and operation; OR understanding of regulated facility design, construction and operation; OR knowledge of capacity and expense maintenance projects;
- Familiarity with corporate business systems used for cost planning and control;
- Understanding of the project development lifecycle;
- Demonstrated leadership skill;
- Demonstrated ability to initiate change and help others adapt to a continuously changing
environment;
- Ability to apply business principles to identify and rationalize solutions;
- Adaptability in a fast paced environment with competing priorities and challenges;
- Negotiation skills with the ability to manage both internal and external stakeholder
expectations;
- Excellent communication (Written and Verbal) and interpersonal skills;
- Automation/Control experience is an asset;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Able to work independently and self-motivated while collaborating closely with other members of the engineering team, including 3rd party engineering firms;
- Have strong analytical, problem solving and technical skills;
- Have excellent computer skills (MS Suite - Windows, Excel, Project, PowerPoint);
- Be able to work and contribute in a team environment while independently managing multiple and competing priorities, and be able to adapt to a changing environment;
- Have good time management skills;
- Ability and interest in learning and taking on new challenges.
Education/Experience:
- University degree in Engineering or combination of education and relevant experience.
- 10 to 15 years of work experience;
- Professional Engineering status with APEGA preferred;
- PMP Certification is an asset;
- Basic understanding in operation of gas and/or oil transmission pipeline projects or pipeline facilities would be an asset;
- Travel to Company, consultant, and vendor facilities will be required.
- Maintain a valid driver's license.
