Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Senior Materials and Corrosion Engineer located in El Segundo CA through Nov 19 at 11:59 p.m. (EST).

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the performance of the Materials and Corrosion Team including material reviews and selection, day to day consulting, preliminary failure investigations, and project support. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the El Segundo Refinery Materials and Corrosion program, and the Materials and Corrosion Team organizational capability. This position may also provide consultation and collaboration with other Chevron facilities.

Position Details:
Lead a highly skilled Materials and Corrosion Team by providing work direction, setting performance expectations, coaching of four direct reports, and taking on team assignments.

Manage and be the local expert on assignments in the team’s area of responsibility. Areas of responsibility include risk based inspection analysis, corrosion mechanism analysis, asset strategy recommendations for equipment, material review and selection for repairs and new construction, preliminary failure analysis, stress relief procedure reviews, and weld procedure approval.

Manage the training and development plans for the Materials and Corrosion Team and mentor the team members to improve their ability to identify equipment failure mechanisms, provide guidance for material selection, conduct risk based inspection studies, and other team responsibilities.

Ensure that the Materials and Corrosion Team stewards corporate programs such as Wet H2S, High Temperature Sulfidation, C-1/2 Mo HTHA , and others. Ensure programs are accurate, up-to-date, and incorporated into the appropriate refinery inspection plans.

Keep abreast of advances and opportunities in materials and corrosion technology and techniques that may have application at the El Segundo Refinery by maintaining contact with other Chevron Refineries, ETC, and industry counterparts and experts.

Drive the effective use of the Loss Prevention System for the team to identify behavior and work process improvement opportunities, root causes, and effective corrective actions that will help eliminate incidents, injuries, and inefficiencies.

Required Qualifications and Experience:Seven (7) years of materials and corrosion experience in an oil refining environment including common risk based inspection practices and techniques, corrosion mechanism and related inspection techniques, and material properties and their applications.

Self motivated and assertive person with experience in reliability & maintenance practices, procedures, and tools.
Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both written and orally.

BS degree in related engineering discipline.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Supervisory experience
Reliability engineering experience
Familiarity with Incident Investigation methods and techniques
