Department Description





The Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil operations (ADCO) functions throughout onshore development sites as well as in the shallow coastal waters of Abu Dhabi.
The Company was incorporated in 1978 to oversee operations in onshore concession areas covering approximately 21,000 square kilometers including five of the most important mainland oilfields in the region. During the first quarter of 2006, the inauguration of the North East BAB has been started.


Brief Description






Purpose and Scope

Provides mechanical engineering services for surface facilities projects related to oil and gas production, pressure maintenance, transport and export.  Ensures application of sound mechanical engineering principles and practices to assigned design and development projects.  Includes participating in feasibility studies, preparing conceptual design for new systems and/or modifications for existing ones.  Assist in tendering and contracting activities related to mechanical engineering and may represent the Company with selected consultants.  Provides technical support to fields and terminal operating units in identifying and rectifying process related problems.

Mechanical systems and plants include : oil and gas gathering flowlines and manifolds, separation, storage, pumping facilities, offshore loading facilities, piping and pipeline systems, mechanical packages, water and gas injection facilities, utilities including STPs, water treatment, fire fighting, air compression, HVAC etc.




Detailed Description

Assist in the preparation of feasibility and optimization studies for small projects. Includes preliminary cost estimates, economic comparisons of alternative schemes and reviewing feasibility and optimization studies.
Scope is well defined and enables good cost estimates.
Selected options are well defined and can proceed with conceptual / basic engineering.
Comments advised are valid.
  
Participates in value engineering studies and detailed technical evaluation, and/or safety reviews for assigned plant areas or equipment.
Cost optimization opportunities are identified.
Deficiencies / hazards highlighted.
Recommended remedial actions are viable.
  
Participates in conceptual, basic and detailed mechanical engineering designs and specifications for in-house design projects related to modifications, improvements of mechanical systems and plants.
Designs and specifications are consistent with international codes and practices and ADCO's engineering standards, and meeting customers requirements.
  
Reviews tenders for mechanical engineering designs and specifications submitted by engineering consultants / contractors.
Comments on the technical and commercial aspects of submissions are valid.
  
Participates in the identification, definition, evaluation and validation of plant modification / upgrading requests, involving :
Clear understanding of PMRF scope.
  
- Liasing with concerned parties e.g. Field and Terminal Operations Divisions, or other engineering departments.
Proper communications with concerned parties.
  
- Gathering, researching, analysing relevant data and information, and
Collected field data is accurate.
  
- Preparing recommendations with necessary technical back-up, as appropriate.
Recommendations are clear and viable
  
Liaises with engineering consultants during basic design phase. Includes reviewing drawings and documents, interfacing with concerned field personnel to facilitate collection of relevant data and other technical documents.
Comments on drawings and documents are valid and clear.
Effective communication with consultants and field personnel.

 
Mechanical Engineer - Level 2
  
Assists "in-house" draughtsmen in the preparation of necessary drawings.
ADCO's engineering procedures are followed.
Accurate information is given to Draughtsman.
  
Carries out technical support duties such as :
- Reviewing and assisting in developing plant start up and commissioning procedures for minor projects.
- Participating in the preparation of cost estimates.
- Participating in HAZOP studies for proposed plant modifications; and
- Preparing regular activity / progress reports for assigned projects, etc.
Procedures are well defined.

Accuracy of estimates are within allowable limits.
Active participation in Hazop studies.
Accurate and timely progress reports.
  
Participates in the training and development of assigned UAE national employees. Includes inducting fresh graduates, monitoring and reporting on progress.
Engineers are trained, developed and given ample opportunity to participate in the section's activities.
  
Knows the company health, safety and environmental policy, procedures, regulations and objectives as they relate to his area of responsibility, and ensures that they are effectively implemented in his domain.
