| Job Description | Job Purpose & Scope:
The Island Drilling ERD Engineering Specialist will act as the technical champion to guide and assist the drilling and completion engineers in the design and process of implementing ERD technology for the Island ERD project.
1. Provides drilling engineering guidance and assistance to ensure the proper application of best practices and technology for ERD wells, and to assure technical excellence in well drilling and completion engineering design, including well integrity.
2. Liaison with Shareholder’s ERD drilling experts as required.
3. Stewardship of “ERD Best Practices” process, will ensure lessons learned are translated to best practices between each ERD Island Drill Team.
4. Responsible for ensuring ERD operations manuals and standard procedures are maintained and kept up-to-date with relevant best practices.
5. Mentor and coaching less experienced engineers on ERD techniques, technology and drilling performance.
6. Provide on the job training for engineers and operations on ERD drilling and completion technology.
7. Will participate in “Well Delivery Process” meetings to advise other disciplines in the technical aspect of ERD capabilities.
8. Provide coaching to drilling and completions engineers for technical soundness of lessons learned during preparation of Final Well Report.
9. Liaises with well operations HSE Specialists on all drilling, ERD, related HSE issues (HSE reviews, HSE training, contractor HSE alignment) as applicable to contracts & engineering design.
10. Contributes the drilling engineering elements of the Drilling’s Scorecard, performance targets (KPI’s) and objectives and shares responsibility of meeting these targets.
11. Conducts studies on adaptability of such technology to ZADCO ERD operations and makes appropriate recommendations.
12. Leads risk assessments and operational decisions which impact individual wells and overall Island project.
13. Reviews ERD drilling programs and operating procedures.
14. Coordinate and supervises complex ERD engineering studies
15. Relieves the Drilling Island Engineering Team Lead as needed.
16. Evaluates ERD drilling software capabilities and make recommendations accordingly.
17. Participates in industry organizations such as SPE, API and/or IADC.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Degree in relevant Engineering discipline such as Petroleum or Mechanical.
2. Minimum 10 years experience and knowledge of drilling engineering functions.
3. Minimum 5 years experience in work related to extended-reach or high angle drilling activities.
4. Computing skills including MS Office
5. Knowledge of drilling software applications
6. Prior work experience as ERD Drilling Specialist (Desired)
7. ERD drilling school (K&M or equivalent)
8. Leadership training
9. Able to demonstrate proficient level in the following skills:
• ERD casing and tubing design
• Good understanding of ERD/MRC completion techniques and technology
• Design & Execution of casing flotation technique.
• Drilling Fluids Technology (Water Base, Oil Base and Drill-in fluids)
• High angle Cementing Technology
• Wellbore Stability (Clear understanding of surge & swab implications on wellbore stability and well control for ERD wells)
• Pore Pressure and Fracture Gradient Technology
• Drill String Design / Torque and Drag Modeling for ERD wells (Clear understanding of buckling and torque behaviors in ERD wells)
• ERD / Directional Drilling and ERD anti-collision analysis and avoidance
• Bit Design and Hydraulics
• Good understanding of drill string vibrations and mitigations.
• Understanding of key ROP limiters in ERD wells.
• Hole Cleaning and ECD behavior in ERD wells
• Drilling Problem Solving (Lost Returns, Stuck Pipe, Hole Instability)
• Drill String Inspection for ERD Applications
• Open hole and Cased Hole Logging including coil tubing deployment
• Ability to lead Risk Assessment Teams
• Fundamental Geology
• Fundamental Reservoir Engineering
