Supply
Caltex buys crude oil and refined products on the international market. Caltex sourced some 72 million barrels of crude and refinery feedstocks in 2008.

Refining
Caltex is Australia's leading oil refiner. Combined production at Caltex's Kurnell refinery in Sydney and Lytton refinery in Brisbane comprises approximately 50 percent petrol, 30 percent diesel and 15 percent jet fuel. The remainder of the production consists of fuel oil, waxes and lubricants, bitumen, sulphur, LPG and other gasses.

Logistics
Caltex supplies products via a network of pipelines, terminals, depots and the company-owned and contracted transport fleet.

Job Description

The Inspection engineer is responsible for developing and optimizing inspection programmes aimed at improving the integrity and reliability of all fixed pressure equipment, piping, storage tanks, associated devices and support structures. They ensures that all items are fabricated, installed, modified and repaired in accordance with the relevant codes, standards, specifications and regulations and that they remain safe, reliable and fit for continued service at all times.
  • Be responsible for own personal safety and be aware of obligations to Caltex under the Workplace Health and Safety Act.
  • Ensure that all activities having an environmental impact are managed in a way that meets the requirements of the Refinery licence and environmental law.
  • Care for the health and safety of other employees by creating a strong organizational safety culture, effectively managing health and safety risks in the workplace and ensuring compliance with health and safety competencies.
  • Ensure effective use of the Loss Prevention System (LPS) in fixed equipment integrity management. Contribute personally as an active team member in the use of LPS on site.
  • Participate in Risk Based Inspection (RBI) studies and develop and implement inspection strategies, based on the outcomes of the studies, for pressure equipment, piping, tanks and associated devices.
  • Monitor performance of critical process and corrosion monitoring parameters for changes that may impact on reliability and integrity of plant equipment. Ensure that contact is maintained with process and operational personnel to review and assess potential causes and effects of changes.
  • Provide Projects, Shutdown, Operations and Maintenance Departments with advice regarding code and specification requirements, inspection condition and fitness-for-service of fixed equipment and recommending necessary corrective actions to ensure continued service and reliability of such equipment.
  • Ensure that the requirements of the Refinery Quality Systems and Specifications, Codes and Standards and all applicable Regulations are met at all times for the continued safe operation of plant.
  • Determine the maximum inspection intervals of pressure equipment, piping, tanks and associated devices based on condition history, degradation trends, predicted remaining life, process conditions, potential risk and applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct audits as required on fabricators, suppliers and other service providers and conduct equipment fabrication inspections at their premises and on site to ensure conformity with applicable quality requirements.

Desired Skills & Experience

Suitable applicants will have the following:
  • Tertiary qualifications at the trade or Certificate IV level or equivalent knowledge and skills acquired through extensive experience.
  • AICIP certified or equivalent and Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). - Essential knowledge of API 510, 570, 653
  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant codes and standards, inspection techniques and Risk Based Inspection methodologies as well as Caltex specifications.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead and motivate others.
