Job Description

Our Foster Creek Asset is currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer. Reporting to the Group Lead, Maintenance and Reliability Engineering, your primary focus will be to provide technical support to operations and maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and performance. The successful candidate will provide mechanical engineered solutions and apply reliability methodologies in daily activities, participate/lead root cause analysis’, drive solutions through the bad actor program, use condition monitoring to anticipate/mitigate risk and participate in risk assessments. Additionally, the role will provide support to maintenance personnel with trouble-shooting problems and improving work planning and execution.
 
The Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer is a full time position working a shift of 4 days on 3 days off, 10 hours per day, Monday to Thursday. The ideal candidate will reside in the Cold Lake/Bonnyville area with bus transportation to site provided from various pick up points in the Cold Lake/Bonnyville area. Relocation assistance is provided. A fly in fly out option may be available out of Calgary Alberta for the right candidate.
 
Our Foster Creek facility is located approximately 90 minutes north of Bonnyville/ Cold Lake, Alberta area. Your primary responsibility will be to effectively participate as a team member in the operation of our Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) facilities. Our Foster Creek Team is seeking energetic and qualified individuals to support our long term safety, environmental and production goals. 

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare work scopes and construction work packages for mechanical equipment modifications following company Management of Change process and adhering to all Cenovus Engineering Standards & Practices
  • Provide engineering input for modifications to existing operating procedures and maintenance and reliability programs so that mechanical equipment is operated and maintained within safe operating limits and in compliance with Cenovus’s standards
  • Lead root cause analysis and incident investigations related to mechanical equipment
  • Focus on resolving maintenance related Bad Actors for the Foster Creek SAGD Operation
  • Apply reliability tools (FMEA, RCFA, Low Cost Asset Life Cycle, RBI) when required
  • Ensure equipment strategies (preventative, predictive tasks), are suitable for mechanical equipment (rotating, static, piping and valves)
  • Evaluate the cost effectiveness of asset care initiatives
  • Evaluate new technologies or tactics to reduce costs of asset care while maintaining the required availability and reliability of plant equipment
  • Participate / develop equipment and system surveillance to anticipate threats and avoid equipment failures
  • Support the Operations & Maintenance Groups to maximize equipment reliability and performance
  • Ensure that equipment failures are investigated using the RCFA or similar process and that action items are assigned, followed up, and communicated
  • Provide input to and work with corporate technical teams to continuously improve equipment specifications based on technology improvements and field modifications
  • Develop repairs procedures, and work scopes for plant equipment
  • Interaction with Facilities Integrity group to evaluate inspection results
  • Participate / lead in asset risk assessment
  • Participate in standard operating procedures and practices development
  • Ensure engineered solutions are in compliance with governing codes
  • Conduct routine site inspections
  • Demonstrate HSE leadership to Maintenance & Reliability Team through demonstration and promotion of Cenovus Safety Commitments. Participate in EH&S exercises and audits

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, registered with APEGA
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering, reliability or facilities engineering experience supporting operations and maintenance
  • Preferred candidates will have experience with mechanical integrity management programs or reliability improvement programs 
  • Familiar with local regulatory standards including ABSA
  • Knowledge of materials engineering, corrosion control and inspection techniques
  • Working knowledge of piping design codes ASME B31.1, and B31.3, Boiler Piping and CSA codes related to piping and pressure vessels including industry standards and codes- API, ASME
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and build rapport within a cross functional team
Other skills:
  • Understanding of exchangers operation, performance and condition based maintenance is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and communicate risks as well as to implement mitigation strategies.
  • Proven judgment, analytical and business skills
  • Demonstrate leadership in the area of safety. This requires observing and enforcing safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors, which may lead to accidents
