Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Senior Fixed Equipment Engineer located in El Segundo CA through Nov 15 at 11:59 p.m. (EST).

This position will provide Subject Matter Expertise in regard to Fixed Equipment reliability at the El Segundo Refinery. The Fixed Equipment Senior Engineer will ensure that process plant equipment, such as pressure vessels, piping, and tanks, will operate safely and reliably. This position will provide leadership in regard to fixed equipment inspection, risk based inspection, Chevron inspection practices, and code adherence. The successful candidate will engage with Engineering, Reliability, and Maintenance personnel. This position may also provide consultation and collaboration with other Chevron facilities.


Position Details:
o Applies the ASME/API Fitness for Service standards in their daily work (API 579)
o Refinery Subject Matter Expert (SME) for ASME Section I (boilers) and VIII (pressure vessels), B31.1 (boiler code piping) and B31.3 (process piping)
o Refinery Subject Matter Expert (SME) for API 510 (pressure vessels), 570/571 (piping), and 580/581 (RBI)
o Conducts quantitative engineering evaluations to demonstrate the structural integrity of equipment. Ability to arrive with clear, unambiguous recommendations with regard to Fit for Service evaluations.
o Reviews proposed designs for adherence with refinery, industry, regulatory, and corporate specifications. Leads refinery through Total Cost of Ownership when selecting equipment, components, or support systems.
o Provides leadership in regard to corrosion strategies, risk based inspection strategies, Chevron inspection practices, and code adherence.
o Provides co-leadership with Reliability in developing bad actor resolutions, repair and maintenance strategies, and design alternatives.
o Conducts proactive fixed equipment reliability studies and delivers clear recommendations in order to meet Turnaround Planning Cycle timing expectations
o Conveys complex technical requirements into simple concepts, suitable for a wide audience (management, operations, maintenance, technical).
o Leads fixed equipment failure analysis efforts using support tools such as 5-Why and TapRoot
o Champions the effective use of the Loss Prevention System to identify behavior and work process improvement opportunities, root causes, and effective corrective actions that will help eliminate incidents
o Provides work direction and career guidance to Technicians, Analysts, and Engineers through daily interactions

Required Qualificationso Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
o Eight years experience in application of codes and standards
o Familiar with API Recommended Practice 579 (Fitness For Service) or the procedures outlined in ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section XI (Rules for In-service Inspection of Nuclear Power Plant Components), Appendix A.
o Demonstrated proficiency with ASME Section I and Section VIII, B31.3 (boiler piping) and B31.3 (process piping), API 510, 570/571, 580/581
o Familiar with quantitative risk management tools and techniques.
o Familiar with all common methods of NDE used in the petrochemical industry
o Familiar with California state pressure vessel jurisdictional requirements.

Preferred Qualificationso Refinery Process Plant Experience
o Demonstrated development and application of monitoring and surveillance programs in Process Plants
