My client is recruiting for a qualified expatriate to work as an Instrument Control Specialist on a permanent basis, reporting to the Deputy and Gas Plants Maintenance Managers in Egypt. The expatriate position will be on a 28/28 rotation basis and will be located in a remote field site in the western desert of Egypt.

Position Purpose:
This position provides leadership in the specialist area of instrumentation and control support to the Gas Operations with the aim of meeting production and maintenance objectives and minimizing downtime. The role is also geared towards bringing knowledge and application of best industry practices for all gas instrumentation areas of operation and maintaining a highly skilled & proficient workforce.


The Instrument Control System Specialists are the system administrators responsible for the following systems utilized across the seven gas facilities:

This position will be responsible for
Maintaining a high level of plant availability and operability by ensuring all plant control systems are maintained and administered to a high standard.
Ensure a safe, efficient and timely startup of new facilities / plant areas through active management of all control system and instrumentation vendors.
Management of project commissioning activities pertaining to instrumentation and control systems.
Development of instrumentation / control procedures and standards.
Provide instrumentation support to operations and engineering departments.
Promote and administer the Control System Change Request system and ensure the backlog remains at a minimum by timely completion of requests received.
Develop and carry out in house training programs on control systems for instrument background KPC employees. This includes on the job training of National employees.
Maintain and troubleshoot fiscal metering systems.
Identification & initiation of procurement of critical spares and tools to support the gas plants instrumentation systems.
Management of remote wellhead systems communications from the central control room to the wells (RTU).
Monitor and report to site management on plant overrides status to ensure asset integrity.
Reviewing technical documentation (new projects / tender evaluations etc.).
Formulating and agreeing maintenance and shutdown work plans with maintenance and operations departments for the gas facilities.

In addition, the successful candidate will
Assist operations by designing / developing / coding and implementing control system resident applications as operational requirements are identified to increase the operability of the gas plant facilities. Site control systems utilize programming languages:
Perform all DCS and PLC software and configuration changes (i.e. point building, graphic development or modification, ESD / F&G system programming changes etc.) as required and identified by the Site Change Request system.
Train DCS operators on any newly implemented / modified site control system applications / control strategies to ensure operator familiarity.
•Administer each system (perform routine backups, system health checks to ensure server performance etc.).
Troubleshoot instrumentation and control system problems (inclusive of field instrumentation when required).
Perform loop tuning campaigns to ensure a high level of plant performance.

Rationalize alarm systems.
Maintain the Wide Area Network between remote sites and the central processing area inclusive of ensuring key data is provided by those users that require it.

Experience and Skills:
Knowledge and experience with the existing installed systems.
Enthusiastic, self motivated and the ability to function with minimum supervision
Thorough understanding of Cause and Effect diagrams, ESD and Fail-safe logic
High level of safety awareness and focus
Team orientated
Effective communication skills (both written and oral)
Good listening and interpretation skills
Sound decision making capabilities
A strong focus on continuous improvement
Experience in working in remote locations on a fly in/fly out 28-day rotation
Experience in Oil and Gas well operations and downstream processing of gas and hydrocarbon liquids
Engineering degree not required but an asset for the job
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work with and develop a national workforce
