ENGINEERING JOBS

One of our clients, a Major International Operator is currently seeking a Facilities - Project Engineer to join their Calgary based team.

JOB FUNCTION:
The Engineer is responsible to provide expertise and support to engineering Concept definition for various new projects. He/she develops Project requirements, such as the Early Project Development Basis and steward’s process with other staff on the Project Team as necessary. Stewards the interfaces among the Project Team and the contractor's organization, verifies quality of engineering contractor’s deliverables and effectively manage changes.



Responsibilities and duties:
Provide engineering technical leadership and expertise
Review, evaluate, and comment on:
Relevant specifications, philosophies and drawings (PFDs, Plot plans, etc.)
Contractor deliverables for correctness, compliance, and operability
Operability of the unit or plant for start up, normal, turn down, and shutdown modes. Reviews or sets design basis for abnormal operating conditions
Steward the contractor's activities with respect to engineering and design including:
Plant location selection
Process support for Technical qualification processes
Development and design of engineering deliverable
Development of the schedule, recommended deliverables, and labour hour estimate for engineering
Measurement and reporting of engineering progress
Selection and specification (where applicable) of equipment and components
Support procurement of materials handling items including preparation of specifications
Engineering surveillance activities
Participate in technical specification preparation
Develop a Job Specification for the next phase of the work

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCES:
Thorough and extensive knowledge of:
Applicable codes, standards, and industry practices in the Oil Sands and Tailings management areas
Familiarity with EMDC processes, procedures, toolkits
Understanding of ore characteristics such as grade, PSD, fines, D50, etc
Understanding of slurry behaviour, hydro transport and knowledgeable in slurry pumping systems
Understanding of the properties of oil sands and associated factors on processing such as inter facial properties, wettability, impacts of clays and water chemistry
Sound judgment in the selection and application of equipment and systems for mineral processing, solids and slurry handling, process and process control hardware and software
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mineral Processing or Chemical or Mechanical)
10+ years of closely related professional engineering experience, 5+ years of which should be at the Senior Engineer level
3+ years experience in Oil Sands facilities
Strong communication, coordination, technical and problem solving skills
Thorough knowledge and judgment in the selection and application of engineering principles to equipment / processes
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs
