Job Description

  • Support the operations and maintenance departments by acting to ensure throughput and reliability is optimized during the operation of the Leismer SAGD plant
  • The senior facilities engineer is also responsible for providing technical direction for modification, debottlenecking and expansion projects
  • Contribute to safe and reliable operation of the plant by working directly with the operations and maintenance (O&M) departments and liaison with various technical groups and third party engineering
  • Forecast and evaluate plant performance and establish frameworks for improvement, optimization and debottlenecking
  • Determine repair procedures and ensure work on pressure equipment is completed in accordance with best safety practices and regulations
  • Prepare or check job packages for non-routine maintenance work and small-scale projects being executed by maintenance workforce
  • Review construction work packages from engineering contractor
  • Detailed design for small-scale facilities projects
  • Evaluate equipment performance, develop KPI’s and report on availability and reliability
  • Study and document operating upsets and coordinate incorporating lessons learned into operations and maintenance procedures/practices
  • Collaborate with HSE, regulatory and other technical disciplines to ensure operations and new project designs comply with codes and regulations
  • Apply reliability methods to identify operating expense reduction opportunities
  • Review project schedules to coordinate installation/tie-in activities so production impacts are minimized
  • Mentor engineering team
  • Site-based position at a remote access facility
  • Shift work (7 days-on/7 days-off)

Desired Skills & Experience

Qualifications
  • Engineering degree from an accredited university (mechanical, maintenance, reliability or similar)
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a professional engineer with APEGGA
  • 15 + years of experience, preferably in SAGD oil sands production
  • On-site plant experience is preferred
  • Oil sands upgrading, heavy oil and gas production experience will also be considered
  • Working knowledge of Alberta regulatory entities (e.g. ERCB, AENV, ABSA, etc.) and industry codes and standards (e.g. API, ASME, NACE, etc.) is necessary
  • ABSA pressure equipment integrity (owner-user) and quality programs
  • API 510 or National Board and Alberta pressure vessel inspector certifications are an asset
  • Project management experience is considered an asset
  • The candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision while handling multiple technical tasks and projects concurrently
