The Senior Transportation Engineer will be responsible for the successful delivery of planning and design projects on rural roads and provincial highways throughout the province. Additionally the incumbent will be involved in identifying new business opportunities with existing clients in the public and private sectors. This will include working closely with other AMEC business units to pursue transportation infrastructure work on mining, oil and gas or other resource projects.
This position will offer an excellent career development opportunity for someone who has current experience in management of projects, technical staff and client liaison, and wishes to be involved in the growth and development of our Calgary transportation business.
The ideal candidate will have transportation engineering experience in the consulting industry and/or experience working with, or for, public sector clients in Western Canada. AMEC’s transportation group in Western Canada has extensive, long standing experience with provincial government and municipal government clients and you would be working with staff members that are well respected in the industry with in-depth knowledge of the transportation engineering sector. Additionally the incumbent will be involved in identifying new business opportunities with existing clients in the public and private sectors. Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the planning and design work for transportation infrastructure projects, including project budgets, schedules and staffing.
- Responsible for technical management and business development leadership, including the identification and development of new business opportunities;
- Responsible for the management of multiple and/or technically difficult projects in transportation;
- Plans, assigns, supervises, mentors, and develops project staff.
- Significant internal and external client interaction; acts as technical advisor to other groups.
- Develops, reviews, and signs reports and contract documents in accordance with company policy.
- Supervision of technical staff, including engineers, technologists and draftsman (approximately 8-10 staff).
- Oversee the preparation and review of plans, specifications and tender documents.
- Preparation of proposal documents.
- Client liaison and relationship management.
Desired Skills & Experience
- B.Sc.in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is preferred.
- Registered with or eligible to register with the Association of Professional Engineers of Alberta .
- Experience with public sector transportation clients.
- Proven project management experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects and personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Experience with Alberta Transportation and City of Calgary projects preferred.
